The Moroccan justice system overwhelmed by cases of "gay marriages" Summer In

After the affair of "gay marriage" in Ksar El Kebir in which it had issued six sentences, the court on Tuesday sentenced Moroccan daily Al Massae for defamation on a Crown prosecutor described as a pervert sex.

At the same time, we learned q u'une twenty Moroccans were arrested Saturday for molestation . Between media lynching of suspected homosexuals and pressure from fundamentalist groups, "business manners" give a hard time with the Moroccan courts.

The Moroccan press is too quick to denounce the "business manners"? This seems to indicate the decision of the Court of First Instance in Rabat, which has condemned Tuesday the director of the Arabic newspaper Al Massae, Rachid Ninni, to pay six million dirhams (545,000 euros) in damages to four plaintiffs who had filed a complaint for defamation. These plaintiffs, attorneys, Ksar El Kebir (120 km south of Tangier), criticized the newspaper Rachid Ninni have claimed to have listed a "network of sexual perverts in Ksar El Kebir, including the name of a Crown Prosecutor at the court of first instance "of the city.

Al Massae had already illustrated in the case of "gay marriage" in Ksar El Kebir , a private party who had hit the headlines in November 2007. A video of the evening posted on YouTube, you saw men having fun, dancing, one of them disguised as women. The next day, the rumor of a "gay marriage" was launched and propagated by certain media including the daily Al Massae.

"A capital punishment"

In December, six people suspected of having committed homosexual acts during the evening had been convicted - without any proof on the defense - to prison terms ranging from four to ten months from prison in the first instance. To recap, the Moroccan Penal Code stipulates a penalty of up to three years in prison and a fine of 1,000 dirhams (about 88 euros) "Whoever commits an indecent act or act against nature with an individual of her sex."
Tuesday, the Moroccan justice, then itself covered by the newspaper's allegations, this time has clearly passed to the detriment of the media lynching, condemning Rachid Ninni an exemplary sentence. "A capital punishment" for his part felt Younes Mujahid, president of the National Union of the Moroccan press (SNPM): "If we continue on this path, it will close all the papers because the amount of six million dirhams unreal (...) Each person who feels aggrieved has the right to complain, but we call on Moroccan judges to render judgments serious and fair. "This decision comes amid
a score of Moroccans were arrested Saturday for molestation, near Meknes, on the feast of Mouloud, which celebrates the anniversary of the birth of the prophet Muhammad. Tuesday, several newspapers claimed that those arrested were homosexuals. Today Morocco is headlined: "Twenty people arrested for homosexuality." According to the newspaper citing "informed sources", the suspects were arrested in disguise in women.

Manipulation by fundamentalists

Already in July 2007, members of the ruling Justice and Development Party (PJD, Islamist) had petitioned the Interior Minister on marriages supposedly "gay" in the occasion of the celebration of Sidi Ali Ben moussem Hamdouch (founder of the Brotherhood of Hmadcha) near Meknes. And during protests against "gay marriage" in Ksar El Kebir, the weekly Reporter suspected "a bearded" of being behind the protests. In fact, some fear instrumentalization sex cases by fundamentalists. "Several local associations of Meknes, the Islamist particular amount to each new opportunity for niche to expose alleged homosexual marriage," wrote Tuesday Today, Morocco.
The trial of those arrested Saturday near Meknes should occur during the summer. Sandwiched between, on one hand the Islamists who are trying to discredit the regime by making it complicit in the "business manners", and also some papers which she would calm the passions, the Moroccan justice faces a real balancing act.
